What has surprised you most about being a student at Boyce?

The amount of deep friendships that I’ve made at Boyce has surprised me most. I came out of high school thinking that I had experienced true, deep friendships, and that I would be friends with those people for life. But when I came to Boyce, I was immediately surrounded by believers who wanted to know me well and cared about my life and my spiritual well being.

What is one thing you would want a future student to know about Boyce?

Just because they are in an environment like Boyce where they are surrounded by solid theological teaching and authentic biblical community does not mean growth will just come automatically. When I first came to Boyce, I had this mentality that just because I am here I will experience marked spiritual growth, but it wasn’t until I became more disciplined in my own personal devotions and holiness that I was truly experiencing growth in the Lord.

What is your favorite thing to do in Louisville?

I love the coffee shops in Louisville, so my favorite thing is to go and drink coffee and study or hang out with friends.

What is something fun you do outside of the classroom with friends?

I love getting together with my girl friends and dressing up and going for cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory in Louisville.

What has been your favorite class so far?

My favorite class so far at Boyce has been “Worship Ministry in the Church.” I’m a worship and music studies major, and this is one of the core classes that we have to take for our degree. It has been one of the most formative classes I’ve taken.

What role does the local church play in your experience at Boyce?

Because I’m a music major, I have to intern at my local church and that has been such a joy and a blessing. I’ve been given the opportunity to use the training I’m receiving in the classroom right away in the local church through the internship.

What has surprised you most about being a student at Boyce

The most surprising thing about being a student at Boyce is how everybody is genuine and serious about the gospel.

What is one thing you would want a future student to know about Boyce

Boyce is a college that is serious about the gospel, and they look to shape your worldview in that way.

What is your favorite thing to do in Louisville

My favorite thing to do in Louisville is to visit the walking bridge with friends during the spring or summer.

What is something fun you do outside of the classroom with friends

Something fun that I do outside of the classroom with friends is go to the mall, movies, park, walking bridge or gym.

What has been your favorite class so far

My favorite class so far has been “Personal Evangelism” with Dr. Mark Bishop. Everything we learned in class was applicable to life. In his class we practiced sharing the gospel with someone which made everything we learned more realistic. This was amazing because it was more than just reading a book and getting a grade but real life. It was very practical, and I learned a lot of different evangelism strategies while in this class.

What role does the local church play in your experience at Boyce

There are (2) primary ways that the local church plays a role in my experience at Boyce:

1.)  Boyce emphasis on being plugged into a healthy local church.

2.)  Everything that I am learning in my classes are tools for me to better serve my local church.

What has surprised you most about being a student at Boyce?

When I came to Boyce, I fell in love with the people, the culture, and their dedication to uncovering truths in the Bible. Studying music was something I always knew I wanted to do.  But I was concerned that the music side of the program wouldn’t focus as much on the truths of the Bible. I was so happy to find that that was not the case. Through my music classes, I’ve learned so much and have grown in my abilities in ways I never would have expected. Even though the classes can be difficult, the professors are so helpful and push every student to be the very best they can be. I would not be the musician I am today if it weren’t for Boyce College.

What is your favorite thing to do in Louisville?

I’m a huge nature enthusiast, so I was pumped to hear that even though Louisville is a pretty good sized city there’s plenty of parks to visit too! Cherokee Park is super close to Boyce, which I love. But, my favorite place to go is Bernheim Forest. It’s the perfect way to take a break from the college pressures and destress.

What has been your favorite class so far?

My favorite class has been Intro to Conducting. It’s taught by Dr. Brewton, and it’s so much fun. Conducting music was never something I had envisioned myself doing, but I found a love for it through the class. Conducting is something I would love to use in the future.

What role does the local church play in your experience at Boyce?

My church has become my family in Louisville. They teach me, correct me, grow alongside me, and laugh and cry with me. I’ve found that the best way to get connected has been through my community group. Being as involved as I can in my local church has been the sweetest blessing of my college experience, and it’s going to be the hardest place to leave when I graduate.

What is your favorite thing to do in Louisville?

I love to find coffee shops, and go with friends to do homework or just hang out. There is a ton of great coffee in Louisville, but I really enjoy Quills and Sunergos. I also really enjoy finding new places to eat, but the late night Canes runs are always a blast!

What has been your favorite class so far?

I took “Interpreting the Psalms” with Dr. Howell, and it was so encouraging and formative! Knowing how to study, interpret, and relate with the Psalms can sometimes be difficult. Dr. Howell helped us to understand how the Psalms fit in the big picture of Scripture, to feel the nature of the Psalms, and to see how they point us to Christ.

What role does the local church play in your experience at Boyce?

My church has been one of the greatest joys of my time in Louisville. Sunday is my favorite day of the week, because I get to gather with my church to worship God and hear from His Word. Worshipping with, walking along side of, and growing with these people is a gift from God. And, I am able to take what I am learning in my classes and apply that to how I live life in the church.

What is something fun you do outside of the classroom with friends?

I love getting together with friends and doing a lot of things — whether getting a meal together in the cafeteria, going out for coffee, getting late night fried chicken, riding electric scooters around the city, or getting ice cream (I recommend “Espresso Yourself” at Comfy Cow).

What is one thing you would want a future student to know about Boyce?

At Boyce, you will get one of the best educations available, regardless of what degree you pursue. You will be taught the Word of God – to know it and to love it. Your college years are important and transformative, and Boyce wants to see you graduate with a greater knowledge of Scripture, leading to a greater love for Christ. I have seen this happen in my own life each semester. Boyce is the place to be!
