Boyce College is pleased to announce Zack Stanton as Associate Professor of Music and Worship. Stanton brings nearly two decades of classroom and church experience to help equip the next generation of worship leaders in skill and doctrine.
Stanton holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition from the University of Texas at Austin and spent eight years teaching music theory and composition at the University of Iowa from the freshman to doctoral level. He has also served full-time in ministry—most recently as Worship Director at Grace Community Church in North Liberty, Iowa.
That combination of academic rigor and pastoral formation is precisely what Stanton sees as his calling at Boyce.
“The Lord, in his wisdom and kindness, has woven together threads from the past two decades to prepare me for this position,” Stanton said. “It is a unique opportunity to blend my experiences in academia and ministry to train musicians for the church.”
Dustin Bruce, Dean of Boyce College, believes Stanton’s expertise offers the perfect addition to an already strong faculty. Students at Boyce will benefit from Stanton’s mentorship and commitment to theologically-grounded worship for the church.
“I am delighted to have Zack Stanton joining the Boyce College faculty,” Bruce said. “He brings both years of teaching experience and service in the church into the classroom, adding strength upon strength to our faculty as we seek to prepare the next generation of worship leaders and Christian musicians.”
Stanton said the appointment has been a reminder of God’s faithfulness.
“To see how God has orchestrated so many things in my life to bring me to Southern/Boyce is faith-building for me,” he said. “I look forward to not only working with young musicians who love the Lord and want to use their gifts to serve His church, but also to work with such exceptional, godly colleagues,” he said. “I know that I will learn from and be inspired by my students and my colleagues, both spiritually and musically.”
President R. Albert Mohler, Jr., expressed his confidence in Stanton’s appointment to the faculty.
“Zack Stanton brings an enormous background in music and in the teaching of music both in the
context of the university and the local church,” Mohler said. “He combines conviction and
devotion with deep musical experience and expertise. We look forward to Professor Stanton
joining this faculty and he and his family joining with us here in Louisville.”
