New Musician Assessment

Welcome!

The Worship and Music Studies program at Boyce College is dedicated to cultivating students who love God, use music effectively, and serve the Church faithfully.

Application and Assessment Process

Upon completing and submitting the Boyce College undergraduate admission application, all incoming worship and music students are required to undergo a musicianship assessment for applied studies and music placement. This assessment does not influence admission into the program. Whether you have been taking private lessons for years or are self-taught, our goal is to accurately evaluate your musical background and assign you to the most suitable instructor and courses.

Musicianship Assessment

The musicianship assessment consists of two parts:

Part 1: Video Submission

  • Students must submit videos in their preferred primary area of applied studies (Voice, Piano, or another Instrument). These videos allow the music faculty to assess your potential success as a music student and place you in the appropriate applied studies program. Exceptional applied students may be considered for the Music and Worship Honors Scholarship.

Part 2: Competency Exam

  • Conducted during Orientation Week, this in-person exam evaluates proficiency in Music Theory, Keyboard and Aural Skills.
  • Students who score exceptionally well are exempt from MU095 Foundational Musicianship (Fall) and will register for MU110 Music Theory I: Music Analysis I (Spring)

Our assessments aim to ensure that each student receives the best possible support and guidance to thrive in their musical and worship studies.

Submission Deadlines

  • Fall 2025 Entrance: Forms and videos must be submitted by August 1, 2025.
  • Spring 2026 Entrance: Forms and videos must be submitted by January 1, 2026.

Video Requirements

Videos must be uploaded to Google Drive with access enabled. The link should be shared on the provided information form, which will be reviewed by the department. Students need to submit videos only for their primary area (voice, piano, guitar, bass, or drums). Based on the video review, students may be requested to perform an in-person interview and audition with the Program Coordinator and other Music and Worship Department faculty before commencing their chosen degree at Boyce College. Specific requirements for video auditions are available via the following links:
