Prospective students interested in the Teacher Education Program must first be accepted to Boyce College. For more information on how to apply to Boyce, you can contact the Office of Admissions at boyceadmissions@sbts.edu, or you can apply here.
In order to apply to the Teacher Education Program, students must pass EN101 English Composition I and ED200 Introduction to Teacher Education and have completed a year of studies at Boyce College. Additionally, all students applying for the TEP must meet the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (CORE) requirements (Math, Reading, and Writing). Other requirements for acceptance into the Teacher Education Program will be addressed in ED200 with the program chair.
The Core Academic Skills for Educators (CORE) exam is an important step in preparing for the Boyce College Teacher Education Program. All students applying for the TEP must meet the requirements of all three sections of CORE (Reading, Writing, Math) successfully prior to admittance. This is required for all three emphases within the TEP: state certification, classical, and ESL. In the fall of 2021, the Kentucky Department of Education approved additional assessments which could meet the CORE exam requirements.
You can learn more about Praxis CORE, additional CORE score substitutions, and access available study materials here.
If you have additional questions regarding the admissions process to the Teacher Education Program, you can contact Dr. Melissa Tucker, program chair, directly at mrtucker@sbts.edu.
