May I receive credit for prior professional experience?
Yes, the proficiency program values your professional experience. You will meet with our Proficiency Program Administrator after you submit your completed Required Evidence for Proficiency Evaluation. After the initial review and interview the proficiency committee will determine if you meet the requirements for a proficiency certification recommendation. If not, an Educator Learning Plan (ELP) will be developed for you.
How long does the program typically take to complete?
If additional competencies are needed, an Educator Learning Plan (ELP) will be created. This plan will include a list of any coursework you will need to complete. These classes are available online in an asynchronous format, which will allow you to work at your own pace. Candidates will have up to two years to complete required coursework.
When can I start the program?
You can begin the process today by completing the following form to start the proficiency evaluation process. If additional coursework is required, our asynchronous online format will allow you to start taking the classes you need as soon as your Educator Learning Plan is finalized.
How soon will I be eligible to teach?
You will be able to apply for a provisional teaching certificate as soon as your ELP is approved. This will allow you to start teaching with full pay while you are completing your program requirements.
What support will be available to me?
Provisional teaching candidates will have access to the same support offered to all TEP students here at Boyce College. The Proficiency Program Administrator will walk with you through the entire process from evaluating your application to confirming that all of your requirements are met. You will also receive support from your professors and constructive feedback from certified teachers during your classroom observations.
