David Haines


Associate Professor of Philosophy

Haines serves as Associate Professor of Philosophy at Boyce College. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Université Laval, where he studied under Thomas De Koninck, focusing his dissertation on “The Question of Being.” He also earned an M.A. in Philosophy from Southern Evangelical Seminary and a B.Th. from Covington Theological Seminary through the New Brunswick Bible Institute.

Haines brings over a decade of teaching experience across multiple institutions, including Bethlehem College & Seminary, Veritas International University, University of Sherbrooke, and Davenant Hall, as well as international teaching in French-speaking theological and philosophical contexts.. His courses range from patristic and medieval theology to classical philosophy, the thought of Thomas Aquinas, Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, and Christian responses to contemporary ethical challenges.

A prolific scholar, Haines has written extensively on natural theology, classical theism, and the philosophical foundations of Christian thought. His books include Natural Theology: A Biblical and Historical Introduction and DefenseWithout Excuse: Scripture, Reason, and Presuppositional Apologetics, Natural Law: A Brief Introduction and Biblical Defense (co-authored with Andrew Fulford), and multiple volumes in the On Being series (Plato, Aristotle, Aquinas, and Heidegger). He has contributed chapters to numerous edited volumes and published widely in journals such as ThemeliosCredo, and Eikon.

Fluent in both English and French, Haines is active in scholarly societies, including the Evangelical Philosophical Society and Evangelical Theological Society. His teaching and writing reflect a commitment to grounding philosophical inquiry in biblical truth and the classical Christian tradition, preparing students to think deeply and live faithfully in service to Christ.

In addition to his scholarship, Haines has served in pastoral roles in three Francophone Fellowship Baptist churches in Quebec, Canada.

David and his wife Laury have been married since 2005, and have four children.

“Read every old book you can get your hands on, as deeply as possible, from the Pre-Socratics to the present day. You cannot rush the acquisition of wisdom.”
